Student Classroom and Professional Conduct

Keuka College is committed to maintaining a learning environment characterized by mutual respect, academic integrity, and the free exchange of ideas.

These standards include expectations for course conduct and, for some academic programs, professional standards and dispositions.

Course conduct encompasses all behavior in the classroom, online, during Field Period®, cocurricular activities, and out-of-class academic work. The course conduct policy applies to students enrolled in programs delivered online or at off-site locations. Professional standards and dispositions, such as moral character and ethical practice, redefined in specific academic program handbooks.

Students whose course conduct violates the Student Code of Conduct will be referred to the student conduct process. Outcomes from this process may be shared with academic programs that possess professional standards and disposition requirements.

Course conduct that does not violate the Student Code of Conduct but does not meet professional standards and disposition requirements will be referred to the appropriate academic division for review.

Disruptive behavior in the classroom includes, but is not limited to, actions that impede the learning environment. Examples include repeated outbursts that disrupt instruction or hinder others’ ability to concentrate, failure to adhere to standards of classroom decorum, and the improper use of electronic devices in a way that disturbs others.

The use of discriminatory or abusive language, racial or sexual harassment, or documented behavior that is significantly inconsistent with Keuka College’s values may result in action under the Student Code of Conduct and review of a student’s standing within their academic program.

As developing professionals, students are expected to demonstrate accountability, meet academic and professional obligations, respond constructively to feedback. These expectations support student learning, personal development, and preparation for professional practice and careers.
