College Record 2026-2027

Exception to Policy

Exceptions may be made to Keuka College academic policies as published in the Keuka Record, if the exception requested does not violate the spirit of the policy or represent inequitable treatment. A student may petition to be excluded from a specific policy by submitting an Exception to Academic Policy form.

Individual academic divisions have jurisdiction over exceptions to academic policies regarding major requirements, minor requirements, and course prerequisites. Such exceptions will be made when the exception requested does not violate the spirit of the policy or represent inequitable treatment. A student wishing to request an exception to such policies should consult the chair of the division to be informed of relevant policies. Should an exception be granted, the Exception to Academic Policy form should be submitted to the Office of Records and Registration (ORR)

Exceptions will not be permitted to graduation requirements.

Appeal of Exception to Academic Policy Decisions

A student whose request for an exception to academic policy is denied may submit a written appeal within ten (10) business days of notification of the decision. Appeals must be based on one or more of the following grounds:

  • New information that was not reasonably available at the time of the original review;
  • A procedural error that materially affected the outcome of the decision; or
  • Evidence that the policy was applied inconsistently or inequitably.

Appeals must be submitted in writing to the Office of Records and Registration and include supporting documentation. The appeal will be reviewed by the Provost if the original decision was made by a designee, or by the President's designee if the original decision was made by the Provost.

The decision on appeal is final and concludes the institutional review process.
