Policy

Academic standing is defined as a degree-seeking student's progress toward completion of the requirements for an undergraduate degree from Keuka College. A student's continued enrollment and eligibility for financial aid at Keuka College depends on making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). In some cases, institutional academic requirements may be different from financial aid requirements for SAP. While academic standards may vary by major/program, this policy outlines the minimum academic standing requirements that apply to undergraduate students at Keuka College. The degree requirement sections in the Catalog for each program will state the minimum GPA and grade requirements needed, if the requirement is higher than the institutional requirement. Students who do not meet divisional standards are subject to academic program standing policies.

The institutional policy for graduate students to remain in good academic standing is to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. Graduate students are overseen by their respective divisions as many of the individual graduate programs have requirements specific to their area of study. Graduate students should refer to their divisional handbooks for further information.

Definitions

Good Academic Standing - Students who are meeting all Academic Standing requirements as noted in the Academic Standing Criteria section of the policy are considered to be in good academic standing.

Minimum percentage of credits completed - Defined as a minimum of 66.67% for both term credit completion rate and cumulative credit completion rate.

Cumulative GPA - Calculated as described in the Grading System Policy. The minimum institutional GPA requirement for undergraduate students is 2.0, but may be higher as defined by the academic program. Graduate students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and meet all other requirements as determined by their program throughout their program of study.

Minimum Course Grades – Students must achieve minimum course grades as defined by the institution or the academic program. A grade below the minimum is considered an unsuccessful attempt for academic standards.

Semester(s) Completed - Includes all Fall and Spring semesters where the student has completed the term.

Academic Standing Criteria

Evaluation of academic progress and standing at Keuka College by the Academic Review Board is based on, at minimum, the following:

1. A student must complete at least two-thirds (66.67%) of their attempted semester and cumulative credits. “W,” “F,” and “U” grades are unsuccessful attempts for the calculation of credit completion rate. This percentage is the rule regardless of full or part-time status.
2. The Grade Point Average (GPA)
   1. Students must achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above.
   2. Cumulative GPAs of 1.0 or less are subject to immediate probation or dismissal from the College,
   3. A term or cumulative GPA of 0.0 is subject to enhanced academic contract conditions if return is permitted to the College.
   4. Term GPAs below a 2.0 may also lead to an Academic Review Board action.
3. The number of Field Period® (FP) experiences completed in accordance with the Field Period SAP policy*
4. Other unsuccessful outcomes such as:
   1. Excessive withdrawals (W) or unsatisfactory grades (U) in a term.
   2. Repeat failure of any course.
   3. Determination of an Academic Integrity charge.

Quality Point Deficit (QPD) is used in determining the timeframe a student is likely to return to Good Academic Standing. This measure may be used to determine the sanction imposed on a student, in correspondence with the measured timeframe to return to Good Academic Standing. Note: Students participating in programs through International Partner Schools are to follow any academic standing guidelines and/or criteria as required by the host institution.
