Repeating a Course

When a course is repeated at the College , the grade and credit from the most recent attempt is the official grade and credit, computed into the cumulative GPA and counted toward graduation requirements. All attempts will appear on the transcript.

Students considering repeating a passed course and receive state or federal aid, should consult with the Office of Financial Aid prior to repeating a course.

A course can be repeated once unless an exception has been granted. If an exception is granted to retake a course more than once, students may lose financial aid for that course. Please note, if a student retakes a course that they previously passed, a failed (F) second attempt will compute into the student’s GPA, and the course requirement will no longer be met. Students considering repeating a passed course and receive state or federal aid, should consult with the Office of Financial Aid prior to repeating a course.

Students who have failed a Keuka College course cannot take an equivalent course at another institution and transfer the credit, unless they have received an approved Exception to Policy. The only way to fulfill the requirement and replace the F is to repeat the course at Keuka College or through an approved consortium.

If students transfer a course after they have previously failed the equivalent course at Keuka College, the previous grade earned will stand, and the student will not have the opportunity to replace the computation of that grade in their GPA. If a student needs to retake a course that is not currently offered at Keuka College, there are consortia options available such as Acadeum and the Rochester Area College Consortium. Certain courses may be taken more than once for credit across a student’s undergraduate studies. In these situations, students must take a different topic than what they had previously attempted, and the course must fall in a different semester. Courses that are eligible to be taken multiple times for credit will have this designation shown in their course description.
