Course Load Policy

Undergraduate Students

A normal undergraduate course load during the fall and spring semesters is 12 to 18 semester credit hours. Students enrolled in at least 12 credit hours are considered full-time. Students enrolled in 11 or fewer credit hours are considered part-time.

Graduate Students

Graduate students enrolled in at least 9 credit hours during a semester are considered full-time for financial aid purposes.

Degree Progress

Students seeking to complete a bachelor's degree in four years should successfully complete an average of 27 semester credit hours each academic year, including three credits of Field Period® coursework. Some degree programs may require additional credits. Students should consult with their academic advisor to remain on track for degree completion.

Course Overloads

Students wishing to enroll in more than 18 credit hours during a fall or spring semester must obtain approval through the Exception to Policy process. Additional tuition charges may apply to undergraduate traditional students enrolled in more than 18 credit hours.

Reduced Course Loads

Students considering enrollment in fewer than 12 credit hours should consult with Financial Aid regarding the potential impact on financial aid eligibility.
