Course Audits
Policy:
Auditing is available to both degree-seeking and non-degree-seeking undergraduate students. Students who audit a course are expected to participate in course activities as determined by the instructor; however, students who audit a course are generally not required to complete examinations or other graded assessments.
Students who audit a course do not earn academic credit and do not receive a grade. Audited courses are recorded on the student's transcript and designated as "AU" Audited courses are not eligible for financial aid funding and do not count toward a matriculated student's full-time enrollment status. Students are responsible for the auditing fee published in the College Costs section of the College Record. Audits for Band and Chorale will be waived for matriculated students and College employees. Non-matriculated individuals auditing a course will be assessed the standard audit fee. Audits of Band and Chorale are exempt from the audit fee for all participants.
Matriculated students may audit one course per semester with the approval of both their academic advisor and the course instructor. Non-matriculated students may audit up to two courses per semester, pending space availability and instructor approval.
In addition to the above policy, the following restrictions apply to course audits:
- Clinical, practicum, Field Period®, internship, or independent study, may not be audited
- Requests for Course Audit must be submitted prior to Day 10 of the semester in which the request for course audit is offered. If approved for Course Audit, the student may not change from audit to credit-bearing status.
- Courses required for the major are not eligible for audit
- Requests to audit a course are subject to advisor approval, instructor approval and available space in the course.
Process:
To request an audit, matriculated students must submit a written request to the Office of Records and Registration. Non-matriculated individuals interested in auditing a course should contact the Office of Admissions.
