Article XI - Instruction Committee

SECTION 1 - Purpose

The Instruction Committee serves to support the faculty in their instructional responsibilities at the College. It is responsible for the development, review, and initial approval of policies related to instructional matters and concerns itself with the utilization of equipment and facilities germane to instruction. Further, this committee will serve as the Academic Review Board (ARB).

SECTION 2 - Composition

  1. The Instruction Committee shall consist of four faculty members elected for terms of three years, with ex officio members as described in Section VI - Article II.
  2. The registrar or designate is also an ex officio member of the Instruction Committee.

SECTION 3 - Primary Responsibilities

  1. Primary Functions
    1.  To evaluate, develop, and provide initial approval of policies dealing with instructional matters to the faculty, provost, and president.
  2. Scheduling 
    1. To serve as a consultative group to the appropriate administrative office in formulating the academic calendar.
    2. To review and make recommendations on course scheduling.
  3.  Academic Performance
    1. To review and recommend policies regarding the evaluation of student academic performance.
    2. To develop and/or review academic standing policies in regard to the College Honors Program and academic disciplinary programs.
    3. To act as the Academic Review Board in consort with the provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, with consultative input from the vice president for Student Development in review of students being considered for academic dismissal.
  4. Advisory Functions
    1. To serve an advisory and/or policy development function for the academic orientation of students.
    2. To serve an advisory and/or policy development function in the student retention programs.
    3. To serve an advisory and/or policy development function in the student advisory programs.
    4. To serve an advisory and/or policy development function with the Center for Experiential Learning and Career Development.
    5. To review and evaluate periodically the quality and use of instructional facilities and resources, and make appropriate recommendations.
