Article IX - Professional Standards Committee

SECTION 1 - Purpose

The Professional Standards Committee is charged with recommending the most qualified personnel available, maintaining a high level of teaching by means of recognition of professional accomplishments, and the maintenance of academic standards for faculty.

SECTION 2 - Composition

The Professional Standards Committee shall consist of five tenured academic faculty members who are full-time employees of the College, elected for terms of three years with ex officio members as described in Article VI - Section 2.

SECTION 3 - Responsibilities

  1. Acting upon policies adopted by the faculty, the committee will make recommendations to the provost, subject to review by the president, concerning the following:
    1. Appointment to the academic faculty
    2. Appointment with tenure
    3. Promotions in rank
    4. Terminations of appointment
    5. Reappointments
    6. Post-tenure review
  2. To examine and recommend to the provost policy concerning professional standards and ethics, and to give advice when questions arise.
  3. To provide a fair and comprehensive review of faculty candidates for reappointment, promotion and tenure.
  4. To employ and maintain confidentiality with respect to the contents of candidates' dossiers and tenure deliberations of the committee.
  5. Manage the Professor of the Year and the Adjunct instructor of the Year nomination and selection process.
    1. Policy: Each year, Keuka College will honor a faculty member by declaration as "Professor of the Year".
    2. Policy: Each year, Keuka College will honor an adjunct instructor by declaration as "Adjunct Instructor of the Year".
