Article IX - Professional Standards Committee
SECTION 1 - Purpose
The Professional Standards Committee is charged with recommending the most qualified personnel available, maintaining a high level of teaching by means of recognition of professional accomplishments, and the maintenance of academic standards for faculty.
SECTION 2 - Composition
The Professional Standards Committee shall consist of five tenured academic faculty members who are full-time employees of the College, elected for terms of three years with ex officio members as described in Article VI - Section 2.
SECTION 3 - Responsibilities
- Acting upon policies adopted by the faculty, the committee will make recommendations to the provost, subject to review by the president, concerning the following:
- Appointment to the academic faculty
- Appointment with tenure
- Promotions in rank
- Terminations of appointment
- Reappointments
- Post-tenure review
- To examine and recommend to the provost policy concerning professional standards and ethics, and to give advice when questions arise.
- To provide a fair and comprehensive review of faculty candidates for reappointment, promotion and tenure.
- To employ and maintain confidentiality with respect to the contents of candidates' dossiers and tenure deliberations of the committee.
- Manage the Professor of the Year and the Adjunct instructor of the Year nomination and selection process.
- Policy: Each year, Keuka College will honor a faculty member by declaration as "Professor of the Year".
- Policy: Each year, Keuka College will honor an adjunct instructor by declaration as "Adjunct Instructor of the Year".
