EDU-357 Adolescent Literacy I

This course is the first in a two-part series aimed at equipping pre-service adolescent teachers with the knowledge and skills to help their future students develop the literacy strategies and skills essential for success in middle and high school content-area classes. The course introduces foundational theories and practical approaches to literacy instruction, including Science of Reading, tailored to meet the needs of students in contemporary classrooms. It examines how literacy practices develop and can be strengthened, as well as the role of critical literacy and new literacies in a globalized world. Throughout the course, preservice teachers will engage in activities focused on reading, writing, listening, and speaking to build their understanding of effective literacy instruction.
