EDU-316 Childhood Literacy and the Diverse Learner

This course continues the investigation of methods and materials for teaching and assessing literacy/ELA skills of elementary-aged children. Aligned with the NYS Standards for Language Arts, it focuses on tailoring instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those who are advanced learners and those who face challenges in developing literacy skills. Students will explore key theories and research on first and second language acquisition, equipping them to address legal, linguistic, and community-related considerations when working with students who are learning English. The course also covers Science of Reading, and strategies for collaborating with consultant teachers, specialists, and parents to support student success.
