KC-201J Wellness: Origami † *
In this course, students explore the eight dimensions of wellness and develop a wellness mindset through the lens of the course topic. Through participation in experiential and problem-solving activities, students will acquire knowledge and skills that support the practice of wellness in daily life. Students will be guided, through self-assessment and reflection, to identify areas in their life where the practice of wellness will be most beneficial. Finally, students will develop an individualized wellness plan to positively impact self and others. Students may take up to three different Wellness topics for credit. This wellness course explores the hobby of paper folding. Our hobbies and pastimes that we pursue outside of school and work support our intellectual, emotional and physical health. Among enthusiasts, origami is frequently referred to as "the peace of paper" As this phrase implies, origami can be relaxing. It can also provide intellectual and creative challenges. Students will explore both traditional and modern origami models, learn about origami artists, explore the process of creating and diagraming original work, learn about the historical development of origami, and teach origami to others.
