KC-201F Wellness: Physical Activity and Life Balance *

In this course, students explore the eight dimensions of wellness and develop a wellness mindset through the lens of the course topic.  Through participation in experiential and problem-solving activities, students will acquire knowledge and skills that support the practice of wellness in daily life. Students will be guided, through self-assessment and reflection, to identify areas in their life where the practice of wellness will be most beneficial. Finally, students will develop an individualized wellness plan to positively impact self and others. Students may take up to three different Wellness topics for credit. This course will explore a variety of physical activities and sports that can be used in an integrated approach to wellness and its unique components: mind, body, and spirit.  Results of individual assessment tools will provide students with a basis for the development of an individual wellness program. Various physical activities and their specific effects on wellness will be introduced through research, lecture and small group discussion. Students will be asked to compare and contrast an array of activities within an exploration of scientific, psychological, and sociological research to support their conclusions.
