EDU-357 Adolescent Literacy I
This course is the first of the two-course sequence designed to provide the adolescent pre-service teacher with the knowledge and skills to ensure that her/his future students develop and use the literacy strategies and skills necessary for success in middle and high school content area classes. This first course introduces key theoretical and practical aspects of literacy learning and teaching that address the particular needs of students in today's diverse classrooms. We explore how literacy practices evolve and can be enhanced, along with the role of critical literacy practices and new literacies in an increasingly globalized world. During this course, pre-service teachers will build a knowledge through practices related to reading, writing, listening and speaking.
