Honors Program Mission and Goals

At Keuka College, one of our main institutional priorities is supporting the success of each and every student. We aim to foster an environment that promotes academic excellence and intellectual growth for all students in service of our mission “To create exemplary citizens and leaders to serve the nation and the world.” The Keuka College Honors Program offers a compelling framework designed to nurture exceptional students by offering enriched academic and co-curricular experiences.

The Keuka College Honors Program, integrated primarily within the Compass Curriculum, aims to cultivate engaged citizenship and leadership among students through rigorous academic inquiry, interdisciplinary exploration, and community-focused initiatives. The Honors Program aims to develop leadership for every student and for the benefit of our college and our community. Equity is an important principle of the Honors Program, informing the holistic development of Honors Program students through unique pathways and individualized mentorship.

Honors Program Learning Objectives:

 

Critical Thinking Develop and practice advanced critical thinking skills to analyze complex social issues, evaluate diverse perspectives, and propose informed solutions for positive societal change.:

Global Perspective Demonstrate proficiency in integrating knowledge from various disciplines to address pressing societal challenges and promote interdisciplinary approaches to community leadership.

Research for Social Impact: Apply research skills focused on addressing societal needs, including identifying community-based research questions, conducting empirical studies, and disseminating findings to inform policy-making and community action.

Communication for Citizenship Integrate and advance written and oral communication skills to effectively engage in civic dialogue, and communicate persuasively with diverse stakeholders.

Leadership Development in Community Identify and apply leadership skills for community growth and empowerment, demonstrating empathy, inclusivity, and ethical decision-making to promote active citizenship and positive social change.

The Honors Program Compass Curriculum learning outcomes are shared in the syllabi for each course students take, and typically involve application of skills, community engagement, and sharing of results beyond the classroom.
