Honors Program Curriculum
Students may be concerned that Honors Program courses are difficult, but we prefer to say that Honors Program courses are different. They are enriched with additional opportunities for learning alongside like-minded members of the Honors Program community. This unique community forms the basis for inquisitive, active learning and the opportunity to go deeper into the material. Students in the Honors Program must fulfill the following course requirements, along with minimum academic requirements, such as GPA, to graduate as an Honors Program student from Keuka College. These requirements fully count towards degree and Compass Curriculum requirements. With the exception of the first two courses taken in the first year, there is flexibility in meeting additional requirements based on the student’s major program requirements and sequence. Students will take:
Five Compass Curriculum courses with Honors designation, including:
-
KC 101H: Practicing Academic Culture at Keuka College (Honors)
-
ENG 112H: Writing as Inquiry (Honors)
-
KC 301 (H): Citizenship and Leadership (Honors) (various themes/ topics, as offered)
-
Two additional Compass Curriculum (Honors) courses, per availability on an annual basis. A rotation of different courses will be offered, and the Honors Program Director will provide students with guidance annually prior to course registration.
One 3 or 4-credit course from any area that students pursue with a professor’s and Honors Program Director’s prior approval, to include an Honors level outcome and assignment. This approval must be received prior to the beginning of the course using a provided form. This may also be completed as an individualized study if necessary, but additional fees apply.
One individual or Group Field Period with an Honors designation (3 credits).
One Honors Capstone project, which may double as a Field Period, Senior Capstone course, or can be completed as an individualized instruction.
Total: 22-25 credits.
Note: Those beginning at Keuka College must complete all requirements. Those joining as transfer students or in the second or third semester, may have select requirements waived, determined on an individual basis through consultation with the Honors Program Director. These students who join the program after the first semester must complete at least 75% of this required curriculum at Keuka College to graduate as an Honors Program student (approximately 18 credits).
