KC-301N Integrative Studies: Science in Popular Culture † *
A writing-intensive capstone course for the General Education curriculum that guides students in the application of interdisciplinary knowledge to complex problem solving and decision making to have a positive impact on a community. Students are challenged to practice critical and creative thinking skills, and they are expected to demonstrate competence in communication, collaboration, and engaged citizenship or leadership. This course is open to all majors. For many people popular culture has a greater influence on how they view science than formal science education. This course will examine the relationship between science and popular culture. Using modern and historical examples from television, movies, books, games and other media, we will discuss the implications for society and our understanding of science.
