Transfer Credit Evaluation Process and Policies

Undergraduate Transfer Policies and Procedures

Undergraduate students who have completed course work from regionally accredited post-secondary US institutions can be considered for transfer credit as follows:

• A maximum of 90 transfer credits can be transferred, if accepted. Acceptable non-traditional transfer credit is included in the 90-credit maximum for transfer credit.
• Transfer credit is accepted for courses that are completed with a grade of “C” or higher (see below for exceptions for students holding an associate and/or bachelor’s degree).
• Grades of P, S, and CR earned in credit-bearing courses are normally not accepted unless the course is internship or experiential learning based. However, this policy may be relaxed for students transferring in credit during pandemic-impacted semesters.
• Grades earned through transfer credit are not included in the calculation of a student’s Keuka College grade point average (GPA).
• Transfer credits for courses taken more than five years prior to a student’s enrollment will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Students who have credit that is more than 5 years old may  have to repeat those courses at the discretion of the division and/or Registrar’s Office.
• Some courses at Keuka College require a minimum grade to be achieved to fulfill the course or program requirement. If through transfer credit the student does not meet the minimum grade requirement, the student would have to repeat the course to meet the prerequisite.
• If a student has taken the same course multiple times at a single institution, they will only receive credit once, unless, by definition, the course is able to be repeated for credit.
• Credit from foreign institutions require an equivalency evaluation by a reputable evaluation service such as World Education Service (WES) or Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE).
• Current Keuka College students who wish to take courses at another institution must obtain prior approval to do so. 

Transfer Policies and General Education Requirements for Transfer Students

Keuka College recognizes that transfer students have had the opportunity to demonstrate a similar breadth of knowledge and experience in the arts and sciences through their prior post-secondary coursework. To facilitate for more seamless transfer opportunities, the following policies apply to students admitted as transfer students:

Students Holding Previously Earned AA, AS, and/or Bachelor’s Degrees

Students seeking an undergraduate degree at Keuka College with a previously earned AA, AS, and/or bachelor's degree from other accredited institutions are considered to have met Keuka College’s requirements for general education. Students are still required to satisfy all graduation requirements including remaining prerequisite courses and major requirements.

Students who have earned an AA, AS, and/or bachelor's degree will have credits granted for grades of "D-" or higher from the institution that awarded the degree. If a student is transferring credit from multiple institutions and has an AA, AS, and/or bachelor's degree, grades of "D-" or higher will only be accepted from the institution that awarded the degree. Some courses at Keuka College require a minimum grade to be achieved to fulfill the course or program requirement. If a student does not meet the minimum grade requirement for a specific Keuka College course but meets the minimum grade for the course to transfer, the course will be brought in as elective credit and the student will need to retake the specific program requirement at Keuka College to meet the minimum grade requirement. 

Transfer Students Without Previously Earned AA, AS, or Bachelor’s Degrees

Transfer students who do not have completed degrees or have completed degrees outside of AA, AS, and/or bachelor's degrees are required to complete the Transfer General Education requirements as indicated by their catalog year. Students admitted as transfer students are not required to complete the same core general education requirements as first-year students. However, because of the unique nature of the curricula, Keuka College does not accept external courses as transfer credit towards KC-designated general education courses (KC-101, KC-102, KC-201, or KC-301). If a student wishes to petition for their transfer credit to fulfill one or more of these requirements, they may do so by submitting an exception to policy form to the Registrar’s Office.

Transfer Articulation Agreements

To encourage and facilitate the transfer of qualified students from regional community colleges, Keuka College maintains several comprehensive, generic transfer articulation agreements. Graduate Transfer Policies and Procedures 

Graduate students who have completed course work regionally accredited post-secondary U.S. institutions can be considered for graduate transfer credit as follows:

• A maximum of 9 credits may be transferred towards a student’s graduate degree requirements so long as the transfer credits do not conflict with the minimum institutional credit requirement for graduate degrees (27 credits).
•  All transfer credit is to be reviewed by the academic division to which the student is applying.
• Courses presented must be appropriate to the student's graduate program.
• Courses presented must be graduate-level courses.
• Graduate courses completed while the student was in undergraduate status shall be eligible for transfer only upon receipt of documentation from the institution certifying that such course work was not used to fulfill undergraduate degree requirements at that institution.
• Courses presented must be completed with grades of B or higher.
