Guest Policy
The Office is responsible for the overall functioning of the College’s residence program.
Keuka College considers the experience of living on campus to be an extension of the learning experience of college that is just as important as lessons learned in the classroom.
As a 4-year required residential college, we consider the experience of living on-campus to be a valuable developmental tool designed to enhance the mission of the College by helping students develop critical thinking and communication skills along with a heightened appreciation for diversity and service learning. All residential students are expected to actively participate in and support the programs and procedures employed by Campus Life staff to achieve that end.
Visitation Definition(s)
- Host Resident: A current Keuka College resident hosting a guest on campus.
- Guest: A guest is anyone who is not a Keuka College residential student. Guests must be registered by their host and must be always accompanied by their host while on campus.
Guest Procedure
Visitors may stay overnight in another resident’s room. While they do not need a guest pass, permission from all residents of the room/suite is required.
Host Resident with guest(s) are expected to complete and submit the Keuka College Overnight Guest Registration Form.
The respective host resident is responsible for the actions of all their guest(s). This includes accepting responsibility for any damage done by any guest(s). If proper sign-in procedure is not followed, the College staff will be informed, and the visitor(s) and the host may be subject to disciplinary action. Visits by family members must also adhere to these guidelines.
All guests are required to meet all College standards of conduct. Students are responsible for informing guests of the College regulations and are responsible for the actions of their guest(s).
Guests must provide a valid photo identification that includes their date of birth when requested by college staff.
Guests that are staying in a building with a host student between 8pm and 8am the following day, must be signed into a residential facility. Overnight guests must be between the ages of 18-24, unless otherwise approved. Current high school students, regardless of age, are prohibited from staying overnight, unless participating in an approved, College-sponsored program.
The host resident is responsible (financially and otherwise) for the behavior of their guests.
Guests bringing a vehicle to campus must register their vehicle with the Office of Campus Safety. The host student and guest must come to the Office to get the pass. All overnight visitors must park in Lot V.
Frequency
The host must be present and escort their guest(s) during the guest’s entire visit. No guest may remain overnight more than two (2) nights in any given seven (7) day period without prior approval from a Campus Life professional staff member. Once a guest has stayed two (2) nights, they must wait another seven (7) days before staying overnight again. Guests may not stay more than 4 days in a calendar month. Guests must have the verbal permission of all residents assigned to the living space.
During all 24-hour Quiet Hour periods, guests are not permitted except for the purpose of assisting a resident in moving out at the end of the semester.
Host resident(s) must complete Keuka College Overnight Guest Registration Form prior to the guest arriving on campus.
The College reserves the right to deny or revoke access to any guest in keeping with the terms and conditions of The On-Campus Housing License.
Enforcement
A Host Resident is responsible for the actions of their guest(s) in the residence hall building, room, or suite in which that host resides and will be held accountable for any violations of College/Campus Life policy and/or for any theft, injury to person or property resulting from the behavior of their guests, regardless of whether that guest is a fellow college student or not.
Matters involving the problematic behavior of a guest may be managed through multiple actions, administratively (e.g. removing a guest at the time of an incident, disallowing a guest from entering Keuka College residence halls on a temporary or permanent basis), through the College’s Community Standards process, or may be referred to local law enforcement when deemed appropriate.
Should a guest who engages in volatile behavior be a student at another college or university, Keuka College reserves the right to report that individual’s behavior to their home institution.
Late / Overnight guests are not to sleep in hall lounges or other public spaces.
