Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry

Chemistry is often described as the "central science" because all other areas of science rely on some level of understanding of matter and its transformation at a molecular level. Matter is anything that we can touch, hold, or feel. Thus, chemistry is all around us. The study of chemistry allows us to understand our world, and knowing it allows us to improve our world. The chemistry program at Keuka College is comprised of core coursework in each of the five major chemistry subdisciplines: analytical, biochemical, inorganic, organic, and physical. Beyond this core, students will choose a focus area comprised of a set of electives that will allow them to tailor their program of study to their personal interests and future goals. Among these are forensic chemistry, biochemistry and environmental chemistry. Paths are also available for preprofessional students and for students who want to have a directed research focus. Upon completion of this program, graduates will be well-prepared for advanced studies, for professional programs, or for entry into the workforce.

The Bachelors of Arts Degree in Chemistry is also an excellent program of study for students who aspire to become physicians, dentists, pharmacists, physician assistants, medical technologists, etc.

A Chemistry Minor is also available. It is intended to allow students to supplement their skill set with a stronger background at the molecular level. Additional preparation in chemistry is valuable for students intending to pursue graduate studies, professional studies (e.g., medicine, optometry, veterinary), or to seek employment in biological, environmental, pharmaceutical, or other medicine-related fields.

The Forensic Chemistry Minor involves the study of general, organic, and analytical chemistry in addition to criminal justice and criminal investigation.
