Art and Design
In the spirit of Keuka College’s historical mission, the Bachelor of Arts degree in Art and Design represents a marriage between the personal and the practical. It provides students interested in design and visual expression with opportunities for creative development and personal exploration in multi-dimensional art forms, even as it provides them with the skills and experiences essential to a wide range of multidisciplinary careers rooted in an understanding of and facility in the principles of design and visual communication. The Art and Design program’s unifying core emphasis on the principles of design provides a firm foundation in the fundamentals of visual expression and communication.
Students graduating with a degree in Art and Design will meet the following program outcomes:
- Understand how language and art shape and influence our world in response to diverse social, cultural, historical, and technological factors.
- Analyze and create material, visual, and digital texts for audience, purpose, and context.
- Synthesize the terminology, history and major traditions, genres, theory and principles of art and design.
- Apply creative and conceptual skills and principles of art and design for problem solving.
- Demonstrate mastery of communication across disciplines, build leadership skills, and work collaboratively to foster interdisciplinary curiosity, creativity, and citizenship.
