KC-201D Wellness: Learning Leadership Through the Outdoors *

In this course, students explore the eight dimensions of wellness and develop a wellness mindset through the lens of the course topic. Through participation in experiential and problem-solving activities, students will acquire knowledge and skills that support the practice of wellness in daily life. Students will be guided, through self-assessment and reflection, to identify areas in their life where the practice of wellness will be most beneficial. Finally, students will develop an individualized wellness plan to positively impact self and others. Students may take up to three different Wellness topics for credit. This Wellness course is designed to explore, analyze and facilitate the concept that holistic wellness is crucial to effective leadership, and the idea that the natural environment can directly affect one’s wellness. The course examines models, theories, and foundational background utilized in leadership development and application, as well as in adventure, experiential, and outdoor education including a historical overview of the stewardship of public and private lands.
