Procedures for Completion of Your Sabbatical Application
Your sabbatical application should include the following:
1. Cover Sheet for Sabbatical Application (Form C-1 serves as the first page of application).
2. Letter from your Division Chair.
Your Division Chair should describe how the Division plans to cover your absence from teaching during your sabbatical, including the logistical and budgetary strategies that will be employed.
3. Sabbatical Proposal
Abstract: Briefly describe your project, its value, and expected outcomes.
Background: Describe the project you propose to undertake. Show how it fits within the broader context of your discipline, and within the context of your own professional development. Explain why it seems to you to be worth doing.
Objectives: Specify what you plan to accomplish on your sabbatical leave.
Activities: List the activities you will be engaged in to accomplish your objectives, making certain to show how these activities are related to your objectives. Indicate the approximate time to be spent on each, location of study, specific arrangements for laboratory space/studio space or other facilities, and when each activity will be accomplished. Please include supporting letters from all participating institutions/individuals.
Results: Identify those who are likely to benefit from the results of your project. How will the sabbatical leave enhance your effectiveness as a Faculty member of Keuka College? How will the College benefit? How will the proposed sabbatical leave enhance your long-term professional development goals?
Budget: If you indicate that you are applying for outside funding, or you plan to ask the College for additional funds, you must submit a budget.
Evaluation: Describe how the product(s) of your sabbatical will be evaluated, such as:
(Required)
• A written self-evaluation of the activities of the sabbatical leave: what do you feel your sabbatical leave accomplished for you?
• Original research or a book manuscript – sent to reviewers prior to publication.
• A laboratory manual – might be sent to instructors of similar courses at other institutions for evaluation (and possible adaptation).
• Before-and-after-sabbatical syllabi might be included.
• A presentation to the Faculty on the activities of the sabbatical leave might be planned, particularly if the sabbatical project addresses areas of interest to a wide range of Faculty.
4. A current copy of your curriculum vitae.
5. A copy of the completed sabbatical application is to be given to the Faculty Development Committee Chair, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Division Chair.
