Policy and Procedure for Administration of Student Evaluation of Instruction
The Student Evaluation of Instruction (SEI) process serves the purpose of soliciting anonymous student feedback on the effectiveness of instruction. Information on the SEI may be useful for improvement of the course and the student learning experience. In addition, SEIs provide feedback to the instructor on teaching effectiveness and course design, as well as information that is useful to inform the reappointment, promotion, and tenure processes.
a. It is required that online SEIs be administered at the end of each course. This includes Individualized Instruction and Independent Studies and all modes of delivery.
b. Notification to students and Faculty about the process and start/end dates for completing the SEIs comes directly via email from the Office of Academic Affairs. The email contains clickable links. Using their own smartphone, laptop, or any computer, students may complete the online SEI anytime during the designated period.
c. To increase response rates, it is recommended that Faculty inform their students in advance regarding the online SEI evaluation method and discuss why and how the information is used to improve the course and instruction.
d. If a course is taught by more than one instructor, students will complete online SEIs for each instructor.
e. After final grades for all courses have been submitted, the SEI course data, including student comments, will be available electronically through the online vendor platform to the assigned instructor, the Division Chair, the Program Director (if appropriate), the Professional Standards Committee, the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the President for the purposes of their official deliberations.
f. All SEIs are housed in the Provost’s Office, and it is the responsibility of each instructor and/or administrator to ensure the SEIs are successfully deployed and subsequently shared with the Provost.
