Article IX: Faculty Council

A. Purposes

(1) To facilitate more effective communication and consultation among standing committees and also between standing committees and academic divisions.
(2) To provide an opportunity for discussion among Faculty leaders and representatives of matters of shared Faculty concern that are beyond the scope of any single committee or academic division.
(3) To make recommendations and refer matters of broad Faculty concern to relevant standing committees or to the Faculty for appropriate action.

B. Duties and Functions

(1) The Faculty Council is a consultative, not a dispositive, body whose purposes are described above.
(2) It will make recommendations and refer matters for consideration and appropriate action to the Faculty and its standing committees.
(3) It will report at each Faculty meeting as part of the Faculty Liaison Committee’s regular report.
(4) It will issue an annual report to the Faculty at the end of every academic year.

C. Membership

(1) One selected representative from each standing committee. Representation to be determined at the discretion of each committee.
(2) One selected representative from each academic division. Representation to be determined at the discretion of each academic division.
(3) Two at-large members elected by the Faculty not later than at the initial meeting of the academic year for a term of two years.
a. One junior Faculty member from a traditional (on-campus) program
b. One junior Faculty member from a AOE program
(4) A single individual may not serve to represent more than one of these constituencies.
(5) No ex officio members.
(6) Meetings to be convened and chaired by FLC representative.

D. Meetings and Agendas

(1) Council will meet during each academic semester.
(2) Agenda items to be submitted by members and formulated by Council convener/chair.
(3) Standing committees or individual Faculty members can refer matters to this body for discussion and/or recommendation.
