Health and Counseling Services
The Health and Counseling Center is located in the Keuka Commons building and provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and referrals for such health concerns as upper respiratory infections, gastrointestinal distress, urinary tract infections, and muscle strains and sprains, to name a few. Other services provided are T.B. testing, pregnancy testing, blood glucose testing, strep throat screening, urine testing for infection, physicals, clearance for sports, and counseling for health related conditions. Additionally, the Health and Counseling Center offers confidential psychological counseling during the academic year to all registered students. There is no fee for this service. Students can address a full range of emotional, developmental, and relational issues with the assistance of professional staff members. The Health and Counseling Center website has updated information on the services and resources that can be provided.
The nurse practitioner can call in prescriptions to area pharmacies. The college works with several pharmacies in Penn Yan that will deliver prescriptions or over-the-counter medications to Keuka College Health and Counseling Center once items have been paid for. The Health and Counseling Center bills insurance, so students should bring their insurance card to each visit. Students will be referred if needs exceed what the Health and Counseling Center is able to provide on campus.
Wellness education is also an important component of the Health and Counseling Center. Education on various topics, such as alcohol awareness, stress management and sex education is available. Several student events are held each semester in support of these wellness themes, and informative displays can also be seen on the walls of the office and around campus.
Students can schedule appointments by calling 315-279-5368, emailing health@keuka.edu or stopping in to the Health and Counseling Center. The Center is open Monday-Friday from 8:00am-4:30 pm. The office is closed from 1:00-1:30 pm for lunch. After hours care is available by calling the practitioner line at 315-531-2000, or going to the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital Emergency Room, located at 418 N. Main St. in Penn Yan or the Urgent Care Center located at 789 Pre-Emption Road in Geneva.
A completed health form, which includes New York State immunization requirements, is mandatory for all students. Students without a complete health form are not eligible to receive health care services or participate in intercollegiate sports, and will be suspended if the health form remains incomplete after 30 days of the first day of class. Because college freshmen are one of the groups most at risk for contracting meningitis, the College requires all new students (freshman and transfers) to have a meningitis vaccine. Verification should be included with the health form, which can be found on the Health and Counseling Center website.
