Students will be guided, through self-assessment and reflection, to identify areas in their life where the practice of wellness will be most beneficial. Finally, students will develop a personal plan for continued practice of wellness in the future. Students may take up to three different Wellness topics for credit.
Wellness is a dynamic and continuous process with the body, mind, and spirit interconnected. A well-developed concept and practice of wellness acts as the framework for a healthy lifestyle and forms the basis for a continuous mindset of wellness. At Keuka College, the wellness mindset involves purposeful decision-making through experiential learning that leads to a sense of satisfactory social positioning and the realization of adequate progress towards the fulfillment of central life goals.
This course will address a range of topics related to art and community healing in the areas of body (how art connects to healing and the body), mind (how art promotes collective healing through critical thinking and community), and spirit (how art connects to personal values and growth). A cross-cultural framework will be employed. Specific topics may include color activities, sketching, painting, photography, poetry, typography, as well as physical and mental reflection practices. The course features a collaborative project, as well as activities to promote personal development and a growth mindset.
