Honors within Academic Disciplines

Honors in a discipline may be awarded to seniors who fulfill the requirements specified by the individual major course of study and, in the case of student-initiated majors, by the student’s advisory committee and at least one additional faculty member. Students usually indicate their plan to meet the requirements for disciplinary honors to their division’s chair during the spring semester of the year preceding graduation. Disciplinary honors are awarded by the faculty in the student’s division. Disciplinary honors are noted in the commencement program but are not noted on the student’s diploma or transcript.
