This laboratory course focuses on the development of foundational clinical skills used in screening, assessment and intervention across practice settings. Screening and assessment skills will include manual muscle testing, hand strength assessment, and goniometry. Intervention techniques will include establishing therapeutic rapport, designing and fabricating splints, application of upper extremity orthotics, and use of preparatory modalities (thermal and electric). Students will integrate occupational therapy theories and frames of reference as these apply to an understanding of the clinical skills taught in this course.
