Criminology and Criminal Justice

The criminology and criminal justice degree program at Keuka College is based upon three dimensions of academic training: 1) a strong foundational and working knowledge of the criminal justice system, criminal laws, law enforcement, the courts and corrections, 2) a working understanding of crime and criminal behavior, the treatment of crime, and crime victims; and 3) intensive, applied professional development through Field Period and internship experiences and fundamental research skill development.

Student graduating from our program will have a foundation for understanding and investigating the relationship between social forces and crime. The criminological components of this program directly respond to those students interested in applying knowledge to make change. By learning and utilizing sociological and criminological principles related to crime and criminal justice-related issues, they can solve problems of significance to those working in criminal justice or related fields.

The criminology and criminal justice program provides students a unique and marketable integration of theoretical knowledge, basic research skills, and an understanding of the criminal justice and supportive systems while gaining field experience valued by students and potential employers. The program designed to prepare individuals for direct-service occupations in criminal justice and related fields, program coordinator/ management positions primarily in the non-profit sector, and graduate study in criminology, criminal justice, or related fields. Following the completion of the program, students are prepared for occupations in criminal justice (and related fields), and bring to their work an understanding of social issues and human problems.
