Students in Crisis Policy

Personal crisis is, unfortunately, a reality experienced at times by college students and their families. In an effort to ensure that all currently-enrolled students have fair opportunity to receive support in times of major crisis, a Students in Crisis policy has been adopted and a Students Helping Students (SHS) team has been initiated.

The team is a select group of students who formulate plans of action to assist students and their families in crisis. The SHS team operates under the supervision and advisement of the College chaplain, the dean of students, and a faculty member.

Examples of major crisis that may be addressed by the SHS Team include: a student becoming critically ill or who experiences life-threatening injuries; a student who experiences a major life-altering event such as a house fire or flood; or if a student dies.

Students who wish to request support or those who would like to refer a fellow student for support, may find a Request/Referral form and a copy of the Students in Crisis policy in the student affairs office and Center for Spiritual Life Office in Dahlstrom Student Center, as well as in the Spiritual Life section of the College’s portal intranet site.
