Student Handbook 2024-2025

Breaks and Summer Housing

The residence halls and apartments will be closed during scheduled College breaks. Students are expected to vacate the campus for the duration of these breaks. If you are someone that plans on staying over any break, you will need to be living in a certain building to be able to stay.

These buildings are as follows: Ball, Davis, Harrington, and either of our apartments. If you are not living in one of these places, you will not be able to stay for a break. Students will be charged a nightly rate for break housing.

The residence halls and apartments will close at the end of classes on the last day of classes before the break period begins and will re-open at 1:00 p.m. the day before classes resume. All break periods are noted in the academic calendar, which can be found on the Keuka College Registrar’s webpage. The Office of Student Life may accept requests for students who need to stay beyond the closing time. These requests must be made in advance of the break to the Office of Student Life.

The Geiser Dining Commons will be closed for student use during these scheduled breaks. The Wolf Den Café will have limited hours during scheduled breaks.  The Market C located on the lower level of the Lightner Library and Campus Food Pantry located in the Dahlstrom Student Center are available for students during breaks.

Students may be asked to stay in a room that is not their own, due to limited Student Life staffing and buildings that have been closed for the break period.

During break periods, not including summer, students are not permitted to have guests during this time due to limited Student Life staffing.

Students are expected to check out of their rooms prior to leaving, close all windows, lock their door, and unplug all appliances, with the exception of personal refrigerators when the break is more than four days long.

Summer housing is available for students. All summer housing requests must be approved by the Office of Student Life. Summer housing applications will be available in the Spring Semester for Summer. Students will be charged a nightly rate for summer housing.

Each student remaining on campus for the summer and/or Field Period® must complete a housing agreement. If there is an interruption in the period covered by the housing agreement, it is the student’s responsibility to notify the Director of Campus Life, or their designee, of their plans. Failure to do so results in the student being charged through the departing date as stated in the housing agreement.

During summer housing, students are permitted to have guests, and should follow the Guest Policy, under Residential Policies, in the Student Handbook.

Students staying in break and summer housing are expected to follow the Student Handbook and the Student Code of Community Standards during these break periods. Students in break and summer housing are expected to be courteous and mindful of prospective students and their families, as well as conference guests, who are visiting or staying at the College over the break and summer periods.

All alleged policy violations will be adjudicated through the Community Standards process at Keuka College, which will happen through a Community Standards Hearing with the Director of Community Standards & Student Intervention. Outcomes and sanctions will be reported to Campus Life professional staff.

Students who are removed from summer housing for disciplinary violations are not entitled to a refund of any portion of their break and summer housing bill/costs.
